Tennis rules

Tennis

  • Court: 23.77m x 8.23m (singles), 23.77m x 10.97m (doubles). The court is divided by a net.

  • Equipment: A racket with strings and a standard tennis ball.

  • Points and Sets: Scoring follows the sequence: 0, 15, 30, 40, game. Matches are usually best of 3 or 5 sets, with each set played to 6 games (a 2-game difference is required to win a set).

  • Serve: The serve must be overhand or underhand and land in the diagonal service box. Players alternate serving every game.

  • Gameplay: The ball must bounce once on the opponent’s side before being returned. A point is lost if the ball bounces twice or goes out of bounds.

  • Faults: A fault occurs if:

    • The serve lands outside the service box.
    • The ball goes out of bounds.
    • The ball bounces twice on the player’s side.
  • Tie-break: In some sets (when the score reaches 6-6), a tie-break is played to determine the winner of the set. The first player to reach 7 points, with a 2-point lead, wins the tie-break.
